4 year old granddaughter loves it. But it would be much better if the base was heavier or wider - the head tends to fall off when cleaning unless someone is holding it. There is a lot of thick hair, which is great, but a small child cannot hold and comb his head at the same time. Also, small clips and barrettes are pretty much useless. My granddaughter's regular sized hair clips and bows work much better. And the turning tool is very difficult for them to use effectively. My large hand can hold and squeeze hard enough to effect a turn but not a 4 year old.
