Review on πŸŒ™ Huami Amazfit Verge Lite Smartwatch - 20-Day Battery Life, 24/7 Heart Rate Monitoring, 1.3 Inch AMOLED Touchscreen IP68, Moonlight White Color by Raquel Lopez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Simple smartwatch, great battery life.

First off I have to say that the battery life is as fantastic as advertised. I received the watch 7 days ago, charged right away, set it up and now it's at 83%, so 17% in 7 days; If this is for the entire charge, it will last over a month with the features I use. Namely: timing with automatic recording on the wrist and automatic screen off after 10 seconds; pedometer; sleep monitoring; heart rate monitor every 30 minutes with activity detection; synchronization of the application with the phone; SMS messages; a daily alarm; Weather; and tone controls. This includes a bunch of downloaded updates and my play with each watch face. The first charge lasted almost 40 days; the second is almost 30; the third will be just over 30. [Update in 9 months: On average, the battery performs better than advertised, although it can vary between 20 and 35 days from charge to charge. The meter is also uneven, typically consuming 4-5% per day initially, and steadily decreasing until the last 10% is around 2% per day; Oddly, it often freezes at 7 or 8% for 2-3 days. They never delivered in less than the advertised 20 days.] This fits the bill for a basic smartwatch and does everything I want it to. It has a good selection of default watch faces, as well as a good selection of just under 500 custom watch faces that can be easily installed using the AmazFaces app from amazfitwatchfaces.com. I think almost everyone can find a face they like, which makes this watch almost perfect. There are only three watch faces stored on the watch (digital default, analog default and a custom watch face), so the rest must be transferred to the watch on request. That's acceptable, but I'd like it to be able to store at least two, and preferably multiple, custom faces, as I now have a few I want to quickly switch between, specifically a custom digital face and a custom analog face. The strap and case are a bit "plastic" but they look good enough. I don't think it looks cheap, but it's not expensive either. The strap holder has a notch to keep the extra strap from slipping out, but it's a bit flimsy and could do with better - it does the job but it's ok and the extra strap comes out and dangles slightly. around - it could really be improved. The touchscreen works fine, is bright enough, and has an auto-brightness option that seems to work pretty well. The heart monitor is working properly. I know my different heart rates very well and the watch almost seems to live up to my expectations. When I take the watch off it shows no recognition which is better than my previous less expensive watch which only made my heart beat faster even when it was on my bedside table. The sleep monitor seems bad; It's less accurate than my phone's sleep app. At first I thought it worked fine, but after a while it's clearly not very accurate. I've now disabled as much as possible with it and would like to be able to disable monitoring completely and save battery life. What I wasn't sure about was the pedometer. But after clearing up some anomalies that appeared to be my duplicate phone bill, I found it very accurate. There are movements that cause an incorrect count; Two of these stood out to me in particular: washing hair and drumming, both of which involve a very smooth back and forth motion of the hand. The AmazFit iPhone app works reasonably well, setting up/setting up the watch is easy and accessing records and history is intuitive (I find this app to be slightly better than the MiFit alternative). There are a number of options for tweaking the behavior, which I was pleasantly surprised by: The automatic wrist switch has sensitivity and wrist (right/left) settings (and works fine at the default lower sensitivity level without turning it on fully). time when I'm not looking at it); heart rate interval and activity detection; the ability to order and choose which menu options are offered; Alarms can be set on your phone or watch. Overall I am very happy with my purchase having owned this watch for around 6 months especially now that I can install custom watch faces. Without non-standard faces, I would just be content.

Pros
  • Good stuff
Cons
  • Good but not great
