Know your surface! - Accessories and consumables

I prefer the white surface CD-R to the signature surface CD-R because the CD looks much better and the whole surface can be used. However, Verbatim sells two different types of CD-Rs. The one with a white finish, including the hub center (on this list), has a slightly rougher finish, while the other style leaves the hub section clean and has a smoother, semi-gloss finish. I'm not sure if it makes a difference if your application involves inkjet printing to CD as I have no experience with that. However, if you use Sharpies to write on them, the difference will be dramatic. Writing marks on the CD's rougher surface looks like the mark has run out of ink and frankly looks awful. Clear CD-R hubs and Sharpies look great on a glossier surface. It took me a while to figure this out as I fiddled between the two CD-R types for a while before finally figuring it out. I prefer white Verbatim CD-Rs. It says so on a clear cover. I searched on Revain and found this straight away. Supplied in a plastic spindle with a plastic body wrapped with Verbatim information. I buy them in batches of 100 units and this particular setup claims 100 years of archival life. I find Verbatim's CD-Rs to be of excellent quality with almost no defects. I use professional Tascam CD burners that record in real time and professional duplicators. I definitely vouch for the quality of Verbatim CDs. Well if someone could build a machine to make simple, quick labels directly onto CDs that look great and have different fonts and colors (without a computer) I would be very happy.
