I use it for watercolor painting. I glue small to medium sized pieces of watercolor paper on top to hold the paper in place while painting. They are thicker than other brands I've bought which is nice. They are very strong, will not deform or bend. The protective films on it were good - the acrylic is clean and doesn't scratch. (And glossy, if you're looking for matte or non-reflective, it's not matte.) As mentioned, edges and corners can be a bit sharp. You can therefore sand the edges briefly or mask them off if you or your child handle them a lot; I didn't because I was just being a little cautious. All in all a great buy (which often seems like a gamble these days - I won this time!).
