Does not work reliably with Sony A7C

I connected this remote control to my Sony A7C according to all instructions. It went well. Unfortunately, the main functions barely work: at least 50% of the time I half-press the shutter button to focus, but pressing it all the way down does nothing, and the indicator on the remote flashes quickly (meaning the command wasn't received). This is less than 1 foot away and from various positions around the camera. It's hard to tell if this is due to the on-camera implementation of the Bluetooth control stack or the remote control implementation. After a quick blink, the remote has no control over the camera for about 30 seconds (I assume there's a timeout somewhere in the software). I even tried a new battery. Unreliable is the only word I can use. Certainly not worth the money.

Pros
  • Separate Function Buttons: Includes +/- buttons to adjust focus/digital zoom functions, shutter button, REC (record) button and two assignable buttons - AF-ON and C1 button identical to AF-ON -buttons and C1 on camera
Cons
  • Not sure
