Serious design flaws

I bought the Go Pet Club Scratching Post, 50W x 26D x 72H, Beige for our 3 cats 2 years ago and it is well made and has stood the test of time very much active cats. Based on this experience with the Go Pet Club we decided to buy this scratching post as it fits in the corner better than the other. We've been using this for about 3 weeks and the thin faux fur around the lower shaft is already tearing when our cats scratch it. All the poles had to be wrapped in sisal rope, not that flimsy and cheap faux fur material. Also, a hammock on a faux fur-covered independent pole isn't strong enough to support even a fairly small cat (less than 7 pounds). So I know that with a larger cat this rod would absolutely bend and possibly break off. With that in mind we simply modified the design by hanging a second hammock just below the top box to give it a better support, especially as our hammock is fixed to the ceiling and that worked for us. I don't know how this particular cat tree will compare to the first one but our cats certainly love it especially as they can stand much higher than they used to and I'm happy with the smaller footprint of this cat tree. But I suspect we'll have to wrap all faux fur trims in sisal before the end of the month, and at $135 that should never happen. I'd say it's fine if you're willing to make some adjustments, but if you're looking for a quality scratching post, this isn't it.
