automatic mode, air vs. helium

When I was deciding whether or not to buy this, I could not find a good description of what it meant by "automatic mode". I could not find a good description of it anywhere. Well, as it turns out, the "automatic mode" just means that it runs continuously, even when you're between balloons. I see no purpose for this. The manual mode (where you push down on the nozzle to activate the air) works perfectly. I can't imagine why you would want it to keep running while you are tying the balloon and setting up the next one.In any case, in spite of the useless "automatic mode" feature, this pump worked very well. It's a little loud. It's about as loud has a hair dryer, which is fine unless you are trying to blow up balloons secretly in the basement. I had to come up with some excuse about why I was making noise in the basement and she wasn't allowed down there. In the past I have bought those mini helium tanks to blow up balloons. This is the first time I've done it with just plain air, and I must say I'm impressed. I bought some balloon stands that make nice arrangements, and they looked great. One nice thing I discovered is that the balloons stay inflated much longer with regular air than with helium (because the molecules are bigger). It's been a week and only one has deflated out of about 100 balloons.Overall, I'm happier with this pump and the air balloons, than when I've used helium in the past.

Pros
  • No more dizziness or headaches from blowing up balloons
Cons
  • The pump may break down with prolonged or frequent use
