All metal, possibly solid aluminium. I used it to remove the OEM filter. But it failed. The OEM filter must be screwed in with infinite torque. That thing will keep slipping off the filter. For this reason it failed. Then I checked the internet and they tell me to put a piece of paper between this and the filter. I did this and it worked too well that this filter wrench got stuck on the filter and wouldn't come loose. I kept trying to unscrew the filter but it wouldn't budge. I prayed to space, and after an hour of frustration, my prayer was answered when I discovered that the previous owner had inserted a metal tube into my water heater's tank. Probably to protect the water tank in case of an earthquake. I stuck a ratchet handle down the tube and used lever physics to unscrew this unruly filter. The filter tabs broke and the filter wrench never came off. Both went in the garbage. I ended up buying a replacement filter at a local car dealership. Yes, that's a true story, and thanks for reading. I hope you learn from my story.
