The body and chess board are made of high quality natural wood and painted with coarse paint. Good workmanship, but small flaws here and there. Especially in the box. Medium quality hinges, not premium but work well. The chessboard cannot lie 100% flat, it protrudes a little in the middle, but that may be because it is new. It doesn't affect the game in any way. Now it comes down to the chess pieces themselves, they really are of average quality. White border is better than dark. Dark ones have missing spots on the staining, making it rough and exposing the tree itself. These chess pieces could have been polished and painted much better. The closure of the box is nice. It seals the box very well and fixes it securely inside. Biggest problem: no velvet pouches or imitation leather boxes to protect the chessboard. It is very easy to scratch if used carelessly. Actual size is 14 x 13.75 inches when fully open. Another thing is that the velvet floor patch is thin and thin on each figure. But overall this is the best I can find for the price from Revain. A very good gift for children. I say it's a very good buy if you're not picky.
