You need to replace a defective handset in an existing phone system. The price I had to pay for the device is more than the cost of a brand new 4 handset system but my older family members love the 'feel' of these phones they have been using for ten years. The device I received appeared to be brand new and unused, but I suspected the phone's battery was completely dead and would not charge. I suspected that would be the case since this is a 2008 device that I bought in 2019. It's probably been stuck in a warehouse somewhere for a decade. I had spare batteries from a recent round of battery replacements for other phones of this model that I have so I replaced the battery that came with it and the unit works great. It's a bit of a shame to pay a high price for a device and find out that the manufacturer didn't even try to test it before shipping it. A 10 year old battery powered device can be expected to be tested prior to shipment.
