Because Ford did not pre-drill the screw holes, the screws provided are self-tapping screws. Use each drill bit in SLOW mode and do not over-rev. Whatever holds the screws is pretty flimsy metal. It's easier to install fasteners BEFORE installing the brackets. It's easy to get around the protrusion, but it's very difficult to attach the zip tie once you've installed the mount base. Make sure the bottom of your tie slopes outward when you place it on the rail, this makes it easier to put on (and I spit on it like lube).
