I am buying this cat food because my cat (lion) has a urinary tract problem and it is one of the few dry foods that does not cause urinary crystals to build up like lions do. . I have trusted this product for many years but recently came across a horrific case of cat food being contaminated with mealworms. I opened a new bag of cat food and fed it to my cat, unaware that she was infested with worms. When I got home from work I found that Leo had thrown up in about 6 or 7 places in the house. He is very unusually nauseous as he never has stomach problems. I was very worried about him and ended up taking him to the vet where the vet bill was over $200. As soon as I got home I checked the cat food and found it was contaminated with what I assumed was mealworms. I've never been in the habit of checking cat food for bugs because I've never had a problem with pet food quality. I have been in contact with Purina but have had a very bad experience with them as Purina will not cover the cost of the vet bill even though Purina cat food has caused my cat to become very ill. I've included a picture of the infestation so others may know. Two lessons I've learned: It's best to check pet food for problems before feeding the animal, and that Purina seems to think I should be responsible for paying the vet bill, even if the name on the Purina product and pet food appears. made my cat sick. Too bad the Purina brand I used to trust has turned its back on me.
