I crochet a lot and sometimes suffer with knitting needles, switched to plastic and have no regrets. I have found that they slide just as well as metal because they are more flexible. I can use a lot of pressure to get through tight stitches and I haven't had any tears. I struggle a lot with my hands with my arthritis. Curved spokes allow me to put parts of my projects together more easily than curved metal, again mainly because of their flexibility. They don't bend to the point of being useless, they're just perfect. I highly recommend them.
