I own both this and the 400i 2020 . and I'd like to say take the latter than the former.The 5XX has a pretty poor build quality, a rather chintzy feeling to it. I tend to baby my gear a lot and this is one of those things where build quality is flat out questionable considering the asking price.I think the 5XX has been pretty hyped ever since the release of the HD560s both of which in my opinion were pretty overrated. However, the 5XX does have that planar hifiman sound to it. The most I could compare this to is the 400i 2020 which is better in build and sound. The only difference between the two is the 5XX seems to be more open and 'airy'. Whereas the 400i 2020 is much more dense in terms of sound. You can't go wrong with either but personally, I'd rather save the money on this one. There are other pair of cans for the price of the 5XX that will be competitive in sound and build quality.
