I bought this thermometer primarily because it reads temperatures up to 550 degrees Fahrenheit. holding it on the side of the pan. Heats up quickly. I've seen some comments about buyers being frustrated with the long stem, but it holds the dial over heat and makes it easier to read. The key is to properly attach it to the pan. The thermometer also has a moving red marker that lets you set the temperature you want to track for even easier viewing. I know it's just a thermometer, but it really is one of the best ways I can think of. Also, it arrived the next day and was packaged very well.
