I mainly record classical guitar mics seated and I find the Gator Frameworks GFW-MIC-0821 ideal for this purpose: it takes up little space and allows the mic boom to be positioned below and with it hands and notes. Classical guitarists sit while playing, so most barbell racks are too tall and create visual clutter. This tiny gator is heavy enough to be stable and not tip over, yet easy to transport. In addition, it has a small footprint, which is ideal for tight spaces. Tripod legs are great for standing players, but interfere with the footrests and music stands used by classical guitarists. The main stand only allows a few inches of height adjustment, but by sliding the stem you can get enough height for a bridge or neck mic. This Gator model is well made and designed, although I have some concerns about the durability of the plastic pull stud knobs. If you're using a small to medium-sized microphone, you shouldn't have any issues with boom displacement due to the weight of the microphone. I mainly use a Neumann KM184 which is a small condenser mic and a Neumann TLM 102 which is a small large diaphragm mic and the tripod has proved perfect allowing the full length boom to be used. I don't have a large mic, but I'm pretty sure the tripod counterweight is too light, so it's not a good stand for heavy side-mount or stereo mics unless used with the tripod straight or barely extended. Great design and inexpensive assembly: small footprint, stable for small to medium-sized microphones and ideal for hiding the microphone under a seated musician's music stand.
