A recent small key/purse charm project brought me here. After some research I discovered the need to use a connecting ring as the main material for connecting parts. This brand is highly recommended on a reputable craft website. Being my first time working with this type of project I had a hard time sizing it so I went with the variety pack thinking one of these should work. Also, 18 gauge seems to be the most common. I am very glad I chose this option as it not only provides the much needed connecting rings but also allows me to mix and match to create multiple chain mail and pendant patterns. Since it was my first time working with them, I definitely struggled with tools and techniques on every project. The material seems to hold up fairly well to repeated scratches and accidental, albeit slight, disturbances. I opened them in the recommended way (twist, don't pull). The exits are quite nice. Having absolutely no jewelry making experience I cannot comment or confirm the quality. But I suppose it has to be at least stainless steel? Yes, the largest (10mm) can be inserted/bent by hand to some extent, my sore fingertips are a testament to these actions. Even the smallest (4mm) cannot be opened and I suspect by eye they are under 18 gauge. This is not a problem for my projects as I only have to open large rings to get through. The resulting chains and pendants appear to be quite durable. The assortment box closes securely. For me it would last a long time. I'm excited to see what the gem-grade quality is like, although I'm happy with the current material and intend to use as much as possible!
