Review on πŸ”’ Genuine Toyota Fuel Tank Cap Assy (77300-06040) - Quality OEM Parts by Jay Aukuso

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Solution to my intermittent check engine light.

Application: 2010 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport DCSBI would first like to point out that while this is an OEM product and comes in official Toyota parts packaging, there are some slight differences in the text on the cover. I've attached some pictures (old OE cap on the right and new on the left) so you can see the differences in the lyrics. Not a big deal - doesn't detract from functionality, but I'm a fan of details so it's worth mentioning. About my problem: About a year ago I noticed that my gas cap doesn't always make a "1-click". when I finished the pump. I had to try several times before I felt the cap was on properly. A quick search of the Tacoma forums found this to be a common problem for owners. Over time, my Check Engine lights started appearing regularly. The codes didn't always match an EVAP leak or anything indicative of a gas cap, but resetting the ECU (disconnecting the battery to clear the codes) and tightening the gas cap prevented the check engine light from coming on for weeks to come. In the end I decided to look for the original gas cap that got me here and when I saw how cheap it was I decided to buy it. When looking for a part number there are several alternative brands here at Revain. They are cheaper but the OE quality is worth the extra $3-4 in my opinion. The installation is very easy. If your old cap is still intact, grab a pair of pliers and pry it off the fuel filler flap. Push the new cable in place and you're good to go. My check engine light hasn't come on for a few weeks. The 1-click was back and the difference was immediately noticeable. Even comparing the old cap to the new, it was easy to see how ineffective the rubber seal had become. The Toyota's Check Engine light comes on, indicating a leaking gas cap.
