Review on πŸ‘ Winco Medium Brown: Versatile and Reliable Product for Your Needs by Matt Larsen

Revainrating 5 out of 5

First impression, critical dimensions; yes, it has flat scrapers, no wire

If you know what it is, skip below. If you've never seen one, understand that this is more of a gun than a brush. He has no bristles, he has flat, tongue-shaped scrapers made of spring steel. That is hard. It will quickly eat through your fiberglass bath. You can cut a hole in a cedar picnic table Winco #225. Made in China. I've never used anything like this, but it looks good. The block and handle are red oak, the joinery is very good if not fully polished. The handle is so precise I would say it's CNC machined. The wood is actually furniture grade in terms of quality and finish. The block measures 3-5/8" x 9-1/4" x 1" (92 x 235 x 25mm). The handle is solid, nearly 7/8" (22mm) long and has two at the bottom metalized screws attached. Ninety-six sockets, each with three U-shaped scrapers, very evenly and firmly stapled with decent sized plates. That is six scraper ends per nest, for a total of 576 brush scrapers. The scraper size is 0.4 x 3mm or 0.016 x .116" and is fully fitted. Open length is approximately 30mm or 1.25". The ends are sheared or anvil cut and are therefore heavily serrated - this thing is downright brutal right out of the box. Don't accidentally run it over the back of your hand .A hard hit will get you to the tendons. The quality of the spring steel will show over time. There are many reviews of them as a blacksmith scraper brush. That's why I bought it as I'm starting to experiment with forging.I still want to once emphasize that this brush in a different league than even the best mechanic's wire brush. This destroys a lot of materials. Bargreen dot com describes the Meat Block Brush's intended use as "removing layers of debris on cutting blocks and cleaning burnt food, grime and other residue from grills, grills and ovens". Without doubt. In a way, that makes it a hand plane. It should make a top-notch grill brush, but I imagine it will strip the coating off your baking sheets in the oven. I can see this being great for removing rust build up. In fact, I think I'll be ordering another one to support my Lodge Sportsman grill. Cast iron peels off after years of use and is just a tool. FWIW, every Winco item I have purchased online or from a local restaurant has been of good quality. I love their non-stick aluminum pans.
