Apart from almost no range there's a lot to like. I grill a lot and have tried many wireless outdoor thermometers. All of them usually fizzle out when the grill gets around 400 degrees too hot and sensors aren't designed for that purpose, although immo should be. This device comes with a spare sensor, great. It also has slide switches instead of buttons that are accidentally pressed during storage and drain the batteries. It would be better if the temperature was also displayed on the transmitter, I really miss this function. The biggest problem, however, is that if the remote is moved more than 10 feet from the grill, it will be out of reach! The whole purpose of this type of units is to read from a distance. This device will not work beyond ten feet.
