I am very disappointed in this review. I read several professional reviews on websites about these binoculars. I was very excited to get my hands on them and see what all the fuss was about. At the same time I came across a pair of Nikon Monarch 5 Bonos from Cabelas for the same price (discounted). My intention was to compare them and see what differences I could see. In terms of features and options, they are almost identical. Both glasses are ED. Both are dielectric coatings. How many others I do not want to list. Nikon had an issue I wasn't particularly happy with. FOV is only 288 feet. at 1000 meters. The Highland is 339 feet. Ultimately, this was not a problem, as I will explain later. The issues I had with Upland were minimal. I wasn't very happy with the lens caps compared to Nikon, although I found them adequate. I didn't see many focus issues as some others have mentioned. The main issue and the reason I returned them I think was a quality control issue. The explanation of the quality control issue relates to my FOV issue with Nikon. The high ground didn't have a usable field of view at 339 feet while the Nikons were fully usable. At the higher level there was what I would call glass defects. In the lower right corner, specifically and not so noticeable, the edges were very blurry. The center was very well focused. The bottom corner was very bad. The rest was almost invisible. Without the lower right corner, my decision would be very difficult. I would probably keep the Highlands. They felt solid and comfortable in hand. For the price the performance was very good. Some of these big companies like Nikon offer great options at a competitive price but better build quality. If I had to make a choice, considering Nikon is a full-fledged retailer and Upland has no quality control issues, I would definitely go with Upland. Next, I want to get their volume. I just hope that I like it more and I don't find any flaws.
