So the laser does a good job. I've burned images onto thick paper, written on fruit peels, and even cut out printer paper (accidentally at first). I had a bit of a learning curve getting the media spacing right (they include a ruler for some reason) and choosing the right settings (the 2 pass setting makes the image much better than 1). This includes a tripod, ruler, USB power cable and adapter, a good starter kit with tags and leather test stands, and laser safety goggles. I would like them to turn on a little laser protection as the 'prints' can take a while, and you don't want to wear glasses for so long, but it's a hassle to put them on to check your progress. Also, the included USB-C cable is too short, so you'll likely need a longer one. But I love how portable it is and how easy it is to use at angles or on uneven surfaces. But the biggest downside is the software. The iPhone app as of this writing has many options such as photo printing, editor and clipart that seem great until you realize they are bad at all of these things: * It takes forever to print photos of any size. and you can't just separate the photo from the background with their clunky software. So I decided to import png with transparency. No, it turns everything transparent into an almost black print. You must use a JPG with a white background if you want decent results. * The editor offers no fonts, very limited tools and you cannot save or edit your work. So once you exit the screen to start printing you can't go back to fix things and/or print again. Where will it be when it gives you a preview as it is somewhere in the square. * Clipart worked well but you cannot add anything and choices are limited. More things to hate about software: * You can't tell where up is until you type a few times. The top is away from you and the side closest to the tripod screw (what, upside down when typing vertically or at an angle, very confusing). * Although it's nice to have a printable preview of the canvas. If you don't like it, you can't go back to fix it without losing all your work.* You can't set up, edit, schedule, or view work without first connecting to the laser via Bluetooth. Okay, it's not all bad. They give you lots of controls and you can learn how to use them effectively and I like the preview plan it offers. I haven't had any issues with the app crashing either. And once you've uploaded the "fingerprint" to the device, it will work fine if you unplug and plug your phone back in during printing. But the laser needs to get much better, to fulfill its potential, and for the price, it's tempting to opt for something less portable. but with more power and much less drama in applications.
