Gave 2 of these sets to two 8 year olds for Christmas. Some of the steps are relatively simple, like cutting out the skateboard's skin (board artwork) or sticking stickers on the end to decorate the board. The 8 year olds were even able to bolt the wheels after being shown how (they couldn't understand the instructions and all the parts with two different types of bolts). The hardest part, where an older child or adult is needed, is skinning/graphics on the board. After you cut the skin, you need to dip the skin in water (in a bowl), place the board in the water, and then wrap the skin around the board while it's still in the water. The leather gets "tender" in water and tears easily, so we had a few torn skins (thankfully there are extra ones because we messed up a few). When you take everything out of the water, board and leather, you should smooth the leather to remove bubbles without tearing the leather and let it dry. Fun set but expect it to help with some steps or help an older child.
