I bought a medium size for my 12 year old son. He had just grown to a size 14-16 when he was young so I went for a medium size in this sweatshirt. It's not a thick cotton sweatshirt, but it's not a regular long-sleeved sweatshirt either, more like a mix of the two. The medium length is perfect for his upper body but the arms are about 5 inches longer but they have cuffs that stop at his wrists for them to stop unless he pulls down the sleeves on purpose.
