Review on Franklin RF 8110 Style Touch Screen by Edward Perez

Christmas gift. At first I was excited. I wanted the functionality of a digital organizer but gave up on $$$ visors and palm pilots. The Franklin RF-8110's touchscreen is difficult to read in different lighting conditions and is not very sensitive to the stylus. The words under the symbols are blurred. You can use 3 address books, but you cannot see all fields of an entry at the same time; You must touch the down arrow to view the next field. It has a calculator and world time and even a euro converter, but it doesn't convert US eurodollars. An optional password is good. One-touch memory check, daylight saving time, Toggling between 12-hour and 24-hour timekeeping and language changes are all nice, as is the thin, light design. However, the instruction manual is poorly written and gives no indication of what the various symbols above are. No screenshot showing all menu items etc. I can get a 'free' PC communication kit to use with MS Outlook but I didn't get it because I'm thinking of returning the organiser. It's not a bad deal for [the money], but if you think like me this will be a good and cheap replacement for the Palm, think again. Of course, unlike the Palm, you can't program it or send e-mails, but I didn't need those features. All I needed was a good one inexpensive digital organizer where I could store names/numbers/addresses, get reminders of scheduled apps, and enter simple to-do lists. Spend extra money on what you want. By the way, the section in the large picture is not quite correct. For example, when you type a message, there are no numbers over the characters. You need to touch the ABC/123 symbol to get the numbers. Once you go there, touch the "SYML" icon to get the symbols. There are few of them and sometimes it's hard to tell what they are.
