, I ran the InstallGear cable from the battery pack to the amplifier in my car. After about 18 months the plastic insulation (housing, whatever) broke at various exposed spots in the engine compartment exposing the copper conductor. I have no idea why the case failed - I suspect the plastics just don't hold up well to the heat/time in the car's environment. The sheathing of the exposed cable in the trunk appears intact, and presumably the same goes for the patches hidden under the carpet inside the cabin. There is no UL logo on the InstallGear cable. While ALL direct battery taps should be protected by fuses, this is especially necessary with the InstallGear cable as it tends to damage the case. Better yet, buy a UL listed cable.
