This mount is best mounted on the front of the dash rather than the top as it doesn't have a long arm to hold the phone. It has a stronger magnetic pull than the iPhone, so the charger won't detach from the mount when you remove the iPhone, but you can still remove the Magsafe charger from the mount if you wish. Apple's Magsafe charger keeps your iPhone 12 safe in your car while you have a Magsafe case or use your iPhone 12 without a case. The magnetic attraction will not be strong enough in normal cases. The charging speed is fast, at least with the 18W car charger (USB C PD). I believe my phone was charging at around 12 watts.
