Review on πŸš— Timken 513123 Axle Bearing and Hub Assembly: Enhanced Performance and Reliability for Your Vehicle by Daniel Warren

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best in Class Bearing Assembly

I have found Timken hub bearing assemblies to be significantly better finished than traditional Asian parts. Castings are free from imperfections, porosity and voids; processed carefully and consistently; well finished; The gleaming steel is covered with a heavy oil coating to resist corrosion. I remove the oil, prime and paint the areas that will be visible after installation. The bearings are not tight or loose, they are the right tolerances and the seals fit perfectly. The wheel studs are hardened steel and appropriately treated against corrosion, not mild steel with a yellow paint finish that mimics zinc chromate found on regular parts. Timken bearings are a bit more expensive, but if I spend an ugly hour or two replacing a hub bearing assembly; Dismantle tire, caliper, brake disc, clean brake dust, unscrew axle nut, remove bolts that attach hub bearing to steering knuckle from rear, remove splined axle shaft from hub, clean axle shaft and all bolted connections and so on I prefer to do as good as possible, rather than never having to do it again.
