Very coarse cotton, not at all like microfiber hair towels which are much more absorbent. It is also difficult to rise above the head and then the back is completely open. If you're just using it to pull your hair back, it's much easier to use an elastic band or bobby pin. If you want to use this to dry your hair, buy a different kind that curls up and has a loop to keep it away from your face.
