Review on πŸ”Š Optimized Polycom SoundStation IP 7000 by Keith Cannon

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great hardware, software is much better than before but still takes a few weeks to set up.

The equipment is excellent. The speaker and mic are loud and clear, but I had to adjust the gain settings to improve them in our environment since we have white noise generators, which with the default settings in our environment make everyone sound far away. Software. Well, way better than it was. The web interface of the old firmware was an absolute nightmare and completely unusable. The new firmware is much simpler and loads faster. Almost everything can be configured on this phone, but not through the web interface. (You can, however, import/export advanced configurations). My only criticism of Polycom is that many of their default settings are poorly thought out. They have to spend an inordinate amount of time setting it up to override their stupid defaults. The settings, which should be factory defaults, are advanced options that you can only set using configuration files or provisioning servers. You basically come across some stupid behavior, spend hours/days/weeks researching the internet, going through 10 versions of their manuals and looking for a way to change this stupid behavior, then you find it, but you can't figuring out what the parameter values are should be because that's confusing and the manual doesn't tell you IE: -3 to 54 and then repeating everything again for the next one. The end result of all this work is an amazing phone that gets the job done (which deserves 5 stars) but I can't in good conscience give it 5 stars because the setup process takes a lot more work than it should.

Pros
  • Office electronics
Cons
  • Not satisfied with everything
