I bought this as a discount item which was said to be used but in good condition. When I first installed it I had a suspicion that it wasn't good as I couldn't see the green status light in the bright sunlight. However, I returned in the dark and saw from a different angle, and indeed the light was on. However, after a few months I found that I could no longer see any light, even in total darkness, which indicated that the device needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, when I tried to remove the device for return, my Revain windows were already closed. This time I bought a brand new one for about twenty dollars more than a used one, and even the green light is very bright. in the bright sun. Of course, I have no way of knowing how much surge the used bulb has withstood since I installed it, so it's entirely possible it just had a dim light and served me just as well as a new one. I just doubt it. Now that I have a new one, assuming the rate and intensity of the surges in my house stays constant, maybe I can tell how this holds up compared to a used one. Time will tell, but as said, there's no way of knowing what jumps you'll face. Unless it's durable, which it most likely isn't, a used one can last longer than a new one and vice versa. Rather than saving me $20 I think it cost me due to a significant lifespan reduction. Anyway, I bought my last used surge protector.
