Review on Dexter P94813 Narrow Fillet Knife: Precision and Versatility in an 8-Inch Blade by Michael Jennings

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great Value

This is a new line of knives for Dexter Russell called: Basics. Not quite what I initially expected. I'm used to much of the steel that Dexter Russell uses for their blades. However, there is not much steel in this knife. At first I was very sad because I had never held a Dexter Russell knife that felt so light before. I was actually VERY sad (almost as sad as when I found out Trump was elected) to discover that the pen didn't have Dexter Russell's trademark; and that's when I noticed the basics markings on the blade. I will say this: This knife is on par with other Dexter Russell knives I have owned. I like that the steel they used for the blade is very high quality. The blade has a very shiny appearance and appears to be made of very strong steel. Was the blade sufficiently sharp? I had to sharpen it a bit which I found quite odd as it was brand new. When I found out about the Basics branding my main concern was that the knife was no longer made here in the USA but luckily it is! Result: Good fillet action. For this money I am very satisfied. Also, when you think about it, you can't expect to get more steel than you get for that price point. I bought a Dexter Russell for $26 about six years ago and expected this to be the same weight, but I paid less than half that for this one so you get what you pay for! And I mean well! Happy cutting!
