Solid - Graters

We really like this product because it significantly reduces the cooking time. Grating cheese, chopping carrots or cucumbers for salad, slicing potatoes, etc. seems very good. Assembly is quick and easy, and disassembly for cleaning and storage is just as quick. We used to have a hand spinning grater that would get bits of food caught in the mechanism until one day we could open it (without breaking the plastic) to clean it and it ended up in the bin. This unit is angled so food never gets close to the base where it can mess things up. In addition, three different friction wheels make it very versatile. On later models, there's little room for improvement, per the company's request: the suction cup base (very handy when it works) is a bit finicky about which surfaces it sticks to. . Be sure to wet it with water or some olive oil for a better seal. The plastic construction in general isn't my preferred base material, but it feels solid, pay attention to the connection between the handle and the grating drums as that's the most likely place it can break with prolonged use. The grater drums have too much clearance between the edges of the plastic cylinder they are in for soft foods like cheddar cheese, watery veggies, etc. This creates a bit of mush around the drum as the material is dragged along with it in space instead of it to rub the middle. No big deal, just add to clean up.
