Review on 6" E-book Amazon Kindle PaperWhite 2018 1440x1080, E-Ink, 8 GB, Standard Equipment, sage by Wiktor Lisowicz ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I did not regret the purchase, everything is fine.

In general, a very good device, but when buying it is important to understand the purpose of its use and the disadvantages, because if you do not know about them, they can spoil the whole impression of the device for someone. If, like me, I buy and immediately download books in the original language from Amazon and no pdfs are needed, I think that this is an ideal option on the market, especially if it is important to use dictionaries. If the goal is to read books only in 2022 or some specific formats are important, you can probably find a better option on the market for the same money. I doubted for a long time to put 4 or 5 stars, probably, if I could, I would put 4.5. Still not ready to put 5 stars, because I'm sure that a company like Amazon could make the device even better

Pros
  • In order of importance: 1. Purchase and download convenience of original books from Amazon. 2. Dictionaries (!). In other reviews, for some reason, little is written about this, but it seems to me that there is no better option than Kindle for learning a language, and this is one of the main advantages of this reader. Especially when it comes to the English language, since in addition to the built-in explanatory dictionaries (which are in all languages), English also has such a feature as Word wise (although not all books have Word wise), which is immediately on top of those rarely used in the language words between the lines of small print interprets it in even simpler words. Personally, I don’t use this feature, because either I understand it, or I limit myself to explanatory dictionaries by clicking directly on the word, but I’m sure that it can be very useful for someone at the initial-intermediate level of the language. The number of words for which explanations will be superscripted in this way can be adjusted. 3. Design, quality of fonts in foreign languages, overall ease of use.
Cons
  • In general, most of the disadvantages that are described in other reviews are true, so nothing surprised me, while most of them are not important to me, but I will note some that caused some dissatisfaction with me (in order of importance): 1. The most important minus for me is that while reading, the charge level is not displayed. To see the battery level, you need to press the additional button, which shows the menu. If you forget about it and just read (when you wake up from sleep mode, a book opens immediately), a warning about a critical charge level during reading can be an unpleasant surprise. 2. No scroll buttons. For some, this is on the contrary a plus in favor of the design, but sometimes I really miss it, I think that it would be possible to make small switches around the edges. 3. If you don’t make paging buttons, then at least the screen could be larger by reducing the frames. 4. A magnetic case is, of course, a good thing, but sometimes when you open it, it does not immediately unlock the screen (you have to close and open it again). True, so far (about 2 months of use, reading almost every day), it was very rare for me: maybe 5-10 times for all the time
