I haven't wired the power supply properly for this to work, but I think it's a really cool circuit that's a great starting point to modify an existing circuit and to change it. My plan is to hook up a radio to it much like you would hook up a radio to a tape recorder, but with a humorous micro version of that feature. This circuit is more widely available than most micro ICs, but it still has a lot of machined parts that you probably aren't allowed to modify. So why am I only giving it three stars? Because this seller does the bare minimum and it seems sad to think how easy it would be to give us a little bit more and give us a little edge over most people selling that. That benefit would be to offer a version that included parts to connect to a power supply. Even better, why not give the opportunity to buy this cable for your battery box or wall socket. Again, competitors mostly don't do this, and it's a good price for a fun scheme for beginners to experiment with. But if you're a REAL newbie like me, before you jump into something weird with a multipurpose chip like this, you might want to look at a set designed specifically for educational purposes. All that said, this chip shouldn't confuse people who are more familiar with the pin connections you use with the Uno R3 or similar chips.
