Review on Set Of 2 Replacement Meat Probes For Camp Chef Grills And Smokers – Durable Temperature Sensors For Pellet Grills With Stainless Steel Probe Clips by Justin Bishop

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I'm smoking again!

There are mixed reviews on these probes. I thought that I should share my own experience. The grill is Camp Chef Woodwind 24 with the smaller WiFi controller that mounts up high. The probe doesn't connect to the controller PC board. Rather it connects to a jumper that is accessible by removing seven screws from the cover panel below the pellet hopper. Inside are a lot of wires and a fan and the auger motor.Remove two screws from the old probe and pull some wire up. I had a helper wiggle the probe wires while I lay under the hopper trying to find the moving wires. No clue what path the wires take to get here, so use the old wires to pull the new ones. I cut the old probe off, then taped one of the old wires to the new connector and pulled it that way. It was easy. The connector for me was perfect. I plugged right into the jumper plug. There is a lot of extra wire, so bundle it up and stash it away from that fan.I just did a test run with one of the meat probes poking through the probe hole and the temperatures matched exactly.Previously, the controller probe read way low and I could set the controller for 200F and find that the actual temperature was over 300F. Hard to get good results like that.

Pros
  • I like that I can use the internal probes when smoking meat
Cons
  • The overall durability of the product may be lacking, as the probes can break or wear down after repeated use
