Review on 🌩️ High-speed Thunderbolt USB 3.0 2 TB Portable Hard Drive- Buffalo MiniStation (Silver) by Andrew Hare

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great for computers and accessories

A very fast Thunderbolt drive for Macs. The interface is mostly transparent, meaning it runs as fast as a comparable drive connected via SATA inside the machine. That way, you can use it as an alternate boot drive if you want to run different versions of OS X or start Windows, for example, without taking up space on your primary drive. Inside is a decent 5400rpm drive. I've been using mine this way for about a month and haven't had any issues. Then I sold my old MacBook and had a 480GB SATA II (3Gb/s) SSD lying around. So I disassembled the MiniStation and replaced it with an SSD. This will void the warranty - they are glued together - so don't try this at home! Again, this is just as fast as if the SSD were internally mounted on a SATA bus. This older generation SSD read speed is over 250MB/s and write speed is over 200MB/s. Name it 4-5 times faster than the hard drive it replaced. A SATA III (6Gb/s) SSD would be even faster. The MiniStation was worth its money just because it got a Thunderbolt enclosure that supports SATA III SSDs. And I still use the included 1TB hard drive as a backup drive in a USB3 enclosure. So why not just use an SSD on USB3? Well, it turns out that the 5GB USB 3 bus, which should be fast enough to get the most out of my SATA II SSD, isn't working. I don't know why and I don't care as Thunderbolt just screams fast. Whether you buy it to crack like I did, or to use as a very fast 1TB external drive, I think you'll find it's a good product at a reasonable price. Well, if only Buffalo had sold the hull itself. possible without glue :-)
