Over the past few years, Comcast has slowly increased the price of 'rented' modems. It went from $1 a month to $7. At least the last time I had a modem card was about two years ago. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that math doesn't add up. If they charge $7 a month, you pay $84 a year just for RENT! Which is absolutely ridiculous since I bought this amazing modem for only $49 (with free shipping from Revain). Comcast is powered solely by GREED. With all that money they make off cable modem subscriptions, don't you think they'll just rent it to you for free? No, they happily increase the "rent" without even notifying their customers of the fee change. I'd like to leave Comcast, but unfortunately they have a monopoly on high-speed internet in my area, so I don't have a choice. At the very least, owning this modem rather than renting it restores little choice (not to mention I've saved quite a bit of money). These cable modems are oddly hard to find in retail these days, so (as usual) Revain is the way to go. The item arrived quickly and has provided excellent service since plugging it in. Motorola has developed a quality modem that I would highly recommend to anyone who needs to rent a modem from their cable company and is finding it difficult to connect their own modem. This isn't the case - it took me the full five minutes and I haven't even had to look at it since.
