Review on Audio Technica Hypercardioid Dynamic Microphone 2040 by Alan Massey

I've been podcasting with various AT products for the last two years and can honestly say this mic is a very good value -Value for money offers quality, with some caveats. The At2040 is essentially 1/4 the price of a BP40 but has a similar appearance - as I never record video for my podcast I don't care. about what the microphone looks like. In terms of functionality, this mic doesn't require phantom power, which isn't present here or there, as I still need an audio interface to plug into an XLR cable, and mine runs through a second gen Scarlett Solo with no feedback or noise . Noise is very well controlled - no pop filter required, although just in regards to body armor you can still use a foam cap, but if you unscrew the grille you'll find that the pop filter is already included inside. I'm not sure how well this works for everyone else's voice, but the at2040 rendered my vocals much clearer and cleaner than the at2020. this is often the case with most mics anyway), but for podcasters this is a very, very good budget dynamic mic option that looks good and packs a really good professional sound right out of the box. (*NOTE* On 09/19/21 I ordered a Coda MB-1 to see if I could get even better performance from this mic as on a recent recording I found I had an audible hiss at very low levels this could be my laptop's ports bug, but I'll update this review if I see a difference.) I've used atr2100, the at2020 mentioned above, and the pro41, and this one beats them all.
