The polarity has been reversed.

For me, the battery was connected the other way around. I was able to rearrange these wires by performing a minor operation to remove the pins from the connector's plastic shell and reinsert the pins in the opposite configuration. This allowed my device to work. Time will tell if the batteries will last.
