If you've never used the Incra Rules, you don't know what you're missing out on. I used traditional combo squares before I bought this (my first) Incra ruleset and I've never been able to go back. Combination squares are convenient and quick for making perpendicular marks, but not for precise measurements. The well-placed precision holes and slots in this set precisely locate the barrel of a 0.5mm mechanical pencil, allowing you to make a quick mark or draw a straight line (using the T-rule) easily, quickly and accurately ). These are really great tools for fine woodworking. I started with this 6" set as the smaller sizes (tongues, slots, dovetails, etc.) are the most sensitive to accuracy, but I plan on buying some larger rulers and/or T-profiles. Rulers (12" or 18") sometime. Most of the time I use a T-ruler. The adjustable end bar on the T-Ruler is handy because it allows it to slide flush with either end of the ruler, but long enough for the ruler to stay square and in line with the work piece. The flat ruler is my second most used item Set. It's handy for quick flat measurements and markings. I rarely use a bending ruler. Depending on the type of work you do, you probably won't use it. Unless you're marking the spikes by hand, there just aren't many situations where you need to do so. It's a smart tool for the right purpose, but I could do without it. I'll end my review the way I started it. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned carpenter, Incra's rules make precise ring gauge and marking faster and easier, and it's a great kit to start the job.
