It's better than lugging a jam box on an airplane

I'll be returning to California in a few months and I wanted to bring a lot of music from my large collection. I also didn't want to lug around a jam box and be limited to a flash drive with poor menu display. This lightweight device looked like it would fill the bill. I also planned to use a good set of headphones that cost more than this unit. A DVD contains 80 hours of handpicked music from my vast collection. (I still buy CDs and rip them to MP3s). After finally figuring out all the buttons, the menu from the DVD is way better than the jam box. However, it only shows the first 20 characters for each title, which is a minor bug. The included speaker sucks, but the good pair of headphones more than make up for it. It comes with earbuds which I never use. The lithium battery life is five hours before it needs to be recharged, but I have no idea if the headphones drain the battery faster. For those living in a very hot climate, it is only rated up to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Forget taking it to the beach! It kept going back to the last song played after turning it back on, but the setup menu can be used to prevent this. I was also concerned that it wouldn't automatically advance to the next track every time, but it does that well. It has a USB port that works well for music as long as the folders are named correctly. If you want the top folder to be a genre, then the next folder to be an artist, the albums on the third level would all be a folder. It also has an SD card reader, which I have no use for. You can connect it to a big TV screen, which I have no use for either. It has a lot of features that I won't need, but for the price you can't beat it. I can even bury it among the clothes in my checked baggage to protect it and make it one less thing to take on the plane.

Pros
  • Plays DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, VCD, S-VCD, CD, MP3, MPEG4, WMA, JPEG
Cons
  • I'll write later
