Review on πŸ’Ύ Seagate Compute 2TB Internal Hard Drive HDD – 3.5 Inch SATA for Desktop PC (ST2000DM01C) by Manaporn A Skuljaroe ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best thing for the money, glad I did it.

Seagate is almost always satisfied (there was an unpleasant moment with the 11th series - the disk was determined every other time, changed under warranty, still works). And now, what made me write this comment (I very rarely do this, maybe it will help someone). When copying large files to a disk, Windows XP hangs, after restarting the system, the speed dropped to 3 MB / s. It is solved by turning off the power completely. And in Windows 7, when copying, the disk is lost at all and the BIOS does not see it. The solution is similar. It's all on one computer. Everything is fine on other computers. Yes, the firmware was CC4C. As it turned out, I pulled the cord from the network card (I didn’t even turn off the network card in the BIOS or in the manager) and everything became fine o_0. You insert, the copying speed drops and the disk falls off again. What is it, a jamb of the built-in Atheros AR8131 network card and / or its drivers (not the first time with these network jambs), an Intel ICH7 controller, or still a new disk (after all, the remaining 5 disks, including 3 hanging on ICH7, have such problems no) or compatibility problems with all this economy at once? Solution: I disabled the built-in network, installed the Intel network. A week is a normal flight. ate 04.042022. I already have two disks ST2022DM001-9YN164 firmware CC4H with 3 pancakes and another ST3000DM001-1CH166 firmware CC29 with 3 pancakes. The disks are working. Maybe I don’t use it very actively, but still there are no complaints. And changed the motherboard. Let me explain about the firmware: the latest at the time of writing the review for 9YN16x CC4H drives, later 1CH16x drives have CC29 or CC49 firmware, depending on the modifications. Everything can be safely downloaded from the Seagate website.

Pros
  • Fast and quiet, relatively cold. It will go both under the system and under the storage.
Cons
  • 1. Why relatively cold? Compared to the Seagate ST2022DL003 (also 3 platters, also Advanced Format, only 5900 speed), a year old is 2-4 degrees hotter. Not fatal, especially given the 1.5 times greater read-write speed. On the other hand, I don't need speed for data storage. 2. Sometimes he pecks his heads (already written). Again, ST2022DL003 beeps quieter, but constantly at idle with a frequency of a few seconds. 3. Advanced Format for XP - not fatal for Seagate (built-in SmartAlign technology), but it is desirable to format in Windows7.
