Needlewoman 35 years old likes this hoop

I almost bought this hoop and I'm very glad I didn't fall for negative reviews. I have been sewing by hand for 35 years. I mainly use a ground frame for quilting. But for areas where I'm quilting curves (e.g. feathers) or small quilts, I like hoops. All along I've been using the same 14-inch Darice tire (made in Taiwan) that I bought from Ben Franklin for $3.49 over 30 years ago. I needed one that was a bit larger to cover the blocks I'm quilting on my current quilt, so I bought it from Edmunds. Seriously, this is a beautiful tire. The wood is smooth and feels very durable. The clasp is of good quality. Just over an inch deep on the inner hoop and 1 1/8" deep on the outer hoop - deep enough to hold even a heavy blanket. Yes, it has braces, which some have complained about, but every other tire I've seen has the same thing. Yes, it's made in China - sadly that's not all these days, is it? I'm very happy with it - so glad I finally got an upgrade.
