Review on Denon AVR-X4700H 8K Ultra HD 9.2 Channel AV Receiver (2020 Model) – IMAX Enhanced, Gaming Ready, Music Streaming, Alexa + HEOS by Tony Lawrence

Works great for a day

I want this receiver rate 4 or 5 stars but it started losing functionality after only 1 day. I am familiar with Denon AVRX receivers so setup was easy and fairly straightforward for me. I hooked it up to a PC (with an RTX 2070 GPU) for PC gaming and an XBOX Series S for console gaming, and also wanted to use it for streaming (like Prime Video). After the initial setup everything seemed to work fine. The video was connected to my 55 inch Samsung 8K TV (Q900). The first sign of a problem was the sound. I wanted to use two monitor outputs 1 to 2 Samsung HDMI inputs - 3 for EARC and 4 for HDMI 2.1. Unfortunately this setting didn't work with audio so I had to disable EARC and use digital optical audio for audio - opt1 for streaming and XBOX and opt 2 for PC. I also updated the firmware and everything remained stable. The video was fantastic and I got good surround sound through the OPT inputs. That is, until today (just over 24 hours later). When I ran everything, PC video was downgraded to below 720p and XBOX audio was not working. What was worse, I couldn't get the receiver to recognize the settings, either from the remote or the settings button on the receiver. I tried the factory reset function (power on while holding the information and back buttons), but that didn't work either. I was able to enter a more limited setup using the Denon AVR 2016 app and fix the changed video format, but I couldn't get the audio to work. That's all. I thought maybe the receiver is defective or slightly damaged in transit (in too big a box with no padding - the Denon box could slip easily. I wanted to try the AVR-X4700H again - replace the exact same product but I wasn't given this choice so I decided to just send it back for a full refund. The original receiver that was sent to me just wasn't stable.
