I've heard that the brush contacts can snap out of the case. Mine too. My take on this is that the bolt is basically a carriage bolt in a weak seat. If you put a hot wire on the starter and the threads or bolt turn, you are pulling on the internal wiring, which can damage it. I found out about it after I ordered the 3rd motor. I can be more careful with this and use other details if needed. This is a steal for the price, my local store has a replacement price of $240. I just don't care about the extremely poor design of the thermistor mount that leads to cost, it's time to clear it up.
