Monique Dillard writes great instructions. They are packed with vital indications and don't read like an encyclopedia. She makes all of her demo quilts and it shows because she made all the common assembly mistakes and warns against them in her instructions. I like it. There are eleven patchwork designs in this book, instructions and fabric requirements are given for the smallest size and each pattern contains the information needed to make the other, larger sizes. The patterns range from quite complicated to very simple, most of them look a lot more complicated than they really are. The book begins with general directions for half-square triangles, flying geese, and squares within squares, used in blocks, using both traditional methods and rulers sold by Miss Dillard. I particularly like the fact that there is no assumption that you can create the perfect model from every unit. Your cutting instructions are designed to help you cut perfectly, not 7/8 inch cuts. Quilt beginners should probably read How to Make a Quilt, which is at the end of the book, for the basics of quilt making before beginning a project. Dillard loves thick quarters and includes cutting instructions for the most efficient and least wasteful use. Your diagrams are clear and well thought out.
