One daughter has a cherry tree, the other has a white one. Everyone in the house wants it now! One we had for several months, the other for a year, and they withstood my not very gentle team - unlike others made of wood or plastic. the lip prevents objects from rolling or slipping off. If you frequently use your lips to draw or write and are concerned that leaning against them will be uncomfortable, simply buy sticky foam or pipe insulation at a hardware store, or buy a palm rest that's used for a keyboard. I wish it was a few inches higher but other than that I have no complaints. I'm going to join three of them: cut off one side edge and the corresponding legs of two of them on each end of the three and both side edges of the middle one (leaving the legs intact) and join them underneath with small flat staples that are less than a dollar each piece cost. The middle leg works with the two outer legs to provide enough support, but it folds neatly to slide under a long sofa to pull out playdough, kinetic sand, small puzzles, coloring books, Lego, toy cars, Jenga and more. Things for our little ones (as well as the rest of us!) to have a place to spread out or just a place to share. I wanted to build a table but the wood is expensive and heavy, the fittings for the articulated legs are also expensive so it's actually more convenient and quite economical than making it from scratch. For another family it would probably be more convenient to just cut off the edge and matching legs from one, then the edge from the other (but leaving the legs intact), then put them back together and it would slip under the love seat.
