This scrapbook is hard bound with a ribbon front and back to allow it to be tied together in a bow. . The strap looks good and keeps the book closed well when not in use. The pages are black and about the thickness of thick paper. The pages had an awful smell when I first took it out of the plastic bag it was in. I aired the book outside (inside) with the pages open for several days. Now there is a slight odor but that didn't stop me from using it. The book also comes with two sheets of photo corner stickers - light blue, neon pink, bright yellow, two-tone purple and red-orange. They work well and I was glad they came with a scrapbook. In addition, ten medium-sized metal markers are included. They write well and stand out nicely against the black pages. This is a great set for beginners. I enjoyed using it to organize some of my photos that had just been placed in envelopes.
