The links slide easily and don't get tangled. The clasp is perhaps its weakest point, but that's to be expected. The spring is quite stiff, which is both a good and bad thing. This is good because the dog cannot break off the leash, and the spring itself should be more durable. This is bad because a stiff spring can make it difficult for a restless dog to walk on or off the leash. So there is a compromise there. The housing for the shutter is also not very well sealed, so dirt can get in there and the mechanisms can fail. In general he is right. After all, it's a dog leash.
